IKEA wooden countertop sealing

I have had an ikea wooden worktop installed without a draining board. I have been oiling it every day but was wondering if it is possible to completely waterproof it with a matt varnish or something similar. Like some bar tops I've seen. Any advice would be gratefully received as in kicking myself for installing so impractical!

If it is a solid oak worktop you probably could of but you may have an issue now you have oiled it as vanish may not take to it.
If you have some cuts offs you could have a practise/test on these first.
I would check with manufacturer as well as a back up.

Rather than risk spoiling the finish of your Solid Oak worktop you could purchase a Brabantia dish rack or similar. If you Google "Freestanding Draining Board" there are lots and lots of options in all sorts of colours and materials.
