Bathroom fans - who deals with the roof? electircian or roofer?
Anonymous user 15/03/2024 - 2.33 PM
I recently employed a local electrician to rewire my entire house. In that job we agreed two bathroom fans to be installed. He knew where they were required... he is now telling me I need to get a roofer to make the gaps in the roof and he can only install the fan in the room.. he's left it so the fan isn't working neither is the light in it until it can be connected outside.... As an electrician is this what you would do or finish the job as part of your job ´to install the fans!´ Many thanks.....

There should be no reason to not have the fan or light working as there is no electrical connection externally. For a competent roofer, installing and connecting the roof vents should be no more than 1 hours work. As above, the electrician should have advised of other trades needed, although its not complicated for anyone to fit a roof tile vent.
Hope this helps.

I agree with previous posts that this should be discussed prior to work commencing, out of courtesy if for no other reason.
I know I have no knowledge of roofing and wouldn't even try this part.
I know I often need to have walls replastered after installation and this is the customers responsibility, I can't plaster and don't want to leave the house a state, this is always known to the customer at a survey stage.
