Kitchen Fitting

Wet UFH retrofit in new home and kitchen height

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.04 PM

Hi Collecting keys to my new-build home in 3 weeks and I opted not to have them supply flooring. Since then we've also decided on retro-fitting wet under floor heating downstairs (and removing radiators). The house will come with pre-fitted kitchen and appliances. Question: The retrofit floor pads add around 2.5-3cm in height plus say 2cm for flooring (tiles/wood). This would raise the floor by 5cm however I am concerned that their pre-fitted kitchen then would not have enough height left to fit appliances in the future. Anyone encountered this in the past? How to resolve without removing and refixing the entire kitchen 3cm higher?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

If any of your appliances are fully integrated they will be fine, leave them in place. Any future maintenance can still be under taken as most integrated appliances are on adjustable feet. The issue arises with free standing under work surface appliances. A standard fitted kitchen has a dimension of 870mn to the underside of the worksurfaces. Generally a good new build fitter will rise the whole kitchen by approx 15/20mm to allow for flooring and a ventilation gap. Unfortunately many don't as new builds are all about price and speed so don't assume they have. Most appliances are 810/850 in height, fridges and freezers tending to be smaller than washers and dishwashers. So hopefully your kitchen will have a dimension of 885mm to the underside of work surfaces take away a large washer 850mm gives you 35mm to play with which is very tight. You do have a couple of options 1: fully integrated appliances 2: careful selection of appliances and flooring. Higher end brands/larger capacity usually means increased height. Ceramic tiles are thinner than porcelain, and solid wood. Kardean vinyl tiles can be fit over UFH as long as temp does not exceed 27 degrees. 3: refit kitchen to new floor level. Hope this helps Ash.
