Pump for gravity fed system

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 2.43 PM

Hi, I have a gravity fed water system in the flat with a conventional boiler and a vented cylinder. There are 4 bedrooms in the flat but only one (electric) shower that has quite low water pressure. I'm looking to install another shower in the 2nd bathroom and also improve water pressure to both. Understand my options are: - Install some kind of pump to speed the flow of the water, either for showers only or for full flat (cheaper option but noisy) - Replace existing system with combi (expensive option and water pressure not guaranteed) - Remove cold water tank and replace existing hot water cylinder with unvented cylinder using a qualified plumber Is this right and what is most effective option? Cheers Graham

sounds like your flow rate from mains is low you would need 20 + lts per min to run unvented or combi mains electric shower wont run off shower pump you would need supply pipe to be upgraded to 25mm to run unvented if you fitted a shower pump and run shower off it you would need a min of 50 gallon cold water storage cistern you could have a booster pump fitted with a break tank this would give you good flow rate throughout the whole property
