What foundations for a small garden room?

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 2.43 PM

I am looking to have a 3m x 4m garden room in my garden, but every garden room website uses a different foundation, either they want you to put down a concrete base or one I just spoke to said they use ground screws, ie posts in the ground which let the building breath and raise it off the ground. I am totally confused which one will be best, the site is not entirely level and the soil under is clay. They say that all they do is cut down the trees and shrubs, drive a ground screw through the middle, put down membrane and then erect the garden room. What do you think?

Hi Personal I would go with a concrete base. Once its done its there for life. If it's just a standard wooden out house 4inch depth is fine. If it's a heavy structure I would go for 6inch. 99% of the time this is the method i use. The out house should be on some form of batten to lift it slightly off the ground

Hi I would recommend a concrete base, it is a more structurally sound method of construction. As the ground is clay, I would suggest adding steel reinforcing mesh into the concrete base, this is not terribly expensive but will considerably strengthen the base
