Transition Tall Profile Skirting to Low Profile Staircase Base Board

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.04 PM

I'd like to use some tall profile skirting. The only issue is I have some low profile base board which goes up the stair case and would ideally like to avoid replacing it. What is the best way to transition high profile skirting to low profile base board without making it look like a complete bodge. Thanks. Diagram below: https://s18.postimg.io/klgsdzcy1/stairs.jpg

If it is not possible to cut the string back on the stairs to the same height as the skirting then you can put a 45 degree return mitre to carry the moulding on top of the skirting down to the floor. In my opinion this is the best solution to a fiddly detail.
