Bricklaying & Repointing

Opening up fireplaces and exposing bricks

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 2.43 PM

I am in the process of buying a Victorian terraced flat (ground floor) and would like to open up two boarded up (and vented) fireplaces in the lounge and bedroom and expose the brickwork on the chimney breasts. I'm not sure whether the original fireplaces are still in place. If they are and can be restored, that would be my preference. However, if they have been removed I would like to remove the mantel completely and just have the exposed brick left. I would like to know if a bricklayer would be the best tradesman to complete this job and to try and get a very rough idea on cost for budgetary purposes. Thanks so much Ruth

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

1st of all check if the chimney has not been capped ! and have it swept by chimney sweep they are still around , but yes pretty straight forward job to either replace or restore fire places ,the mantel no need if not wanted , brick work probably re-pointed then sealed with sealer to stop the dust .
