Replacing staircase spindles with glazed panels
Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.04 PM
Hi, I have a normal set up of wood spindles along the landing, in an L shape and a few at the bottom of the stairs There are walls up each side of he stairs, and just a banister rail to one side.secured with brackets to the wall. Sick of painting all those curvy spindles, I want to replace them with glazed panels, put in a new banister rail and probably the newels and conecting rail will need to be stripped of gloss paint or replaced What kind of tradesman would do this kind of work? And what problems do you envisage Thanks
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

A carpenter will do this sort of work. You can buy standard glass panels or have them made to measure by making templates and getting the glass cut. Replacing newel posts is doable but is very time consuming and may cost more than you think in labour when you can strip paint yourself.
