How to fit a round window into a masonary wall?

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 2.42 PM

Hello, im after some advice for my own house! im a carpenter by trade and i'd like to fit a round window into the end gable of my house. the end gable is of brick and flint construction (im end of an victorian terrace). i got the right regs in place from the council. at the moment im thinking of cutting two plyood templates a little bigger than the window (600mm) and fixing one inside and one out and then drilling and breaking the hole out. then fixing and foaming the window in place. it will be going near the top of the gable so there wont be much download, or should i try and lay a soldier course above or get a lintel in there?! the outside is rendered and im going to stud off the inside. any advice would be greatly received!

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

sounds good to me what you are doing. I have cut a bigger hole to put bricks in a circle around the window but theres little point if rendering. Things need to set a bit even if you are using a bit of foam .I tend to stick with using materials that the wall is made of, inside and out where possible.
