Fitted countertop basin and tap, flex with tap - how to fix?

Installed a new countertop basin, faucet & worktop. worktop is one of those faux wood ones (hollow jobbie). Fixed the new mono tap faucet however the stem of the faucet flexes a lot when pressed - so much so that it touches the wall. how do i go about fixing this?

Some taps come with a plastic support that goes underneath, did you have anything like this?
