Is inset electric fire to wide for my chimney breast

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.22 PM

Hi, My chimney breast has a width of 174cm. I have seen a very wide inset electric fire that would look perfect. However, the total width of the frame is 146cm. (Height = 62cm and depth = 16cm.) I am right in presuming that you can't knock bricks out of a 174cm wide chimney breast to a width of 146cm to fit this fireplace??? Thanks Matt

What you can do is drill out the brickwork at the height of the fire, stitch in a steel lintel and bed with mortar, don't cut the rest of the brickwork out until the lintel is cured, you have enough bearing with140cm either side, then drill out remainder of opening of required size.
