I have laid hard board on top of floor boards as to install laminate flooring.

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 2.42 PM

Do I have to install the laminate in the opposite direction of the existing floor boards or can I have to lay them in the same direction? They are being fitted on top of hard board.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Laying the laminate in the same direction is the strongest most safest way as the joist are running the opposite way

Hello, If the floor boards are still in situ and the hard board is 10mm or thicker then you may lay the laminate in either direction as the floor boards and hard board will provide support. For the best structural results then lay the flooring in the same direction as the original floor boards. Regards, Ian Effigy Property Services
