neutral SILVER sand and white cement to lay natural stone slabs

Anonymous user 01/03/2024 - 2.54 PM

I have read that it is best to use colour-neutral sand (SILVER SAND) and white cement to lay natural stone flags and some also say to use SBR adhesive - why is this? Also laying on an old garage concrete base so what mix is best and how thick?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

you can use tiles adhesive or sharp sand and cement if you use this brush the under need of the slabs with very running tiles adhesive will stuck on sand and cement much better

I would use a semi-dry full mortar bed of sharp sand and Portland cement (probably a ratio mix of 6:1 is best for your location). Having recently laid a patio in Indian sandstone, I would definitely recommend painting the underside of your slabs with a 'slurry primer' (SBR mixed with dry cement to a creamy consistency) to ensure adhesion to the mortar bed. Hope this helps.

It would be nice full mortar bed of sharp & building sand about 30/45mm thickness depends if the slabs are calibrate or non calibrated
