Isolation of electrical appliances in a kitchen

Anonymous user 15/03/2024 - 2.32 PM

What do the 17th ed elec regs say about how to isolate electrical appliances in a kitchen the likes of cookers, fridge/freezers, dishwashers etc.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Nothing specific. Merely that isolation must be provided that is suitably placed. If the consumer unit was easily accessible, it could well be argued that the mcb was providing suitable isolation.

132.15.201 - "Effective means, suitably placed for ready operation, shall be provided so that all voltage may be cut off from every installation, from every circuit thereof and from all equipment, as may be be necessary to prevent or remove danger". We tend to fit grid plates in kitchens, with all appliances being isolated from one easy accessible place
