Laminate flooring and internal fire door to garage

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 2.41 PM

My kitchen needs a laminate floor but there is an internal fire door leading to our garage on one side. Whats the best way to deal with where the laminate meets the fire door? Use something like standard Quickstep edging which would leave a gap of around 5mm under the fire door? But I'm wondering if it will stand up to the heavy traffic in and out of the garage as it just sits in the plastic gutter thats screwed to the floor. It'll get scuffed to hell and you can't then sand it etc. The other way would seem to be to fit some form of solid wood step with a cut out underneath for the laminate to pop under. and the fire door would close against it, rather than over the top. What's the "normal" way to cover the concrete step into a garage?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi, you need to get a solid wood rebated door threshold most wooden floor suppliers sell them . Then you have to just trim off the bottom of the door for the clearance. Regards Dan
