Terraced garden - fencing query

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.22 PM

We had a 6ft fence erected the length of our garden (160 ft) 15 years ago. Our neighbour has now "terraced" his garden; about a third of his garden is now half way up our fence height - he has built a retaining wall. So we now have NO privacy. As they stand on the terraced area they can completely overlook our whole garden. Is there anything we can do? If they build a six ft wall all our light will be gone too. Any advice gratefully received!

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

It may be worth contacting the building control officer in your area they should be able to advise you on privacy and light issue's. You could also apply for permission to increase the height of the fence, due to the age of the fence it may require replacement. Hope this helps.

You might consider building a landscape feature that offers you more privacy inside your garden rather than along the fence line. For instance, a green wall or overhead structure located around your private garden area that blocks views from that yard.
