Consider installing a 'Flue less gas fire' This type of appliance is extremely efficient and produces a lot of heat relative only to the size of room it serves, but requires a local gas supply and a air brick plus the room needs to be at least minimum size volume. Recommend you invite a Gas Safe engineer who has experience with this type of appliance, he will carry out the necessary pre-installation checks and advise you accordingly of labour costs and suitability. You do not need an existing fire place opening for this installation. I have installed many and all of my customer have been very pleased with the heat out put it produces.
