Loss of shower pressure after pressure reducing valve fitted

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.22 PM

Our 4 year old Worcester Bosh combi boiler recently sprang a serious leak and was repaired under warrenty. The engineer informed us that our water pressure was too high and we needed a pressure reducing valve and mini expansion vessel fitting (as we have a water meter). This was carried out and the pressure in all the taps is slightly reduced but still seems fine. The pressure in the shower (which is over the bath) however has dramatically reduced and now the shower emits a loud, very high pitched 'eeeeee' noise all the time it is in use. I thought this might be air introduced into the system after the plumbing work so have been using the shower for a few months to see if it would reduce over time but if anything it seems to be getting worse. The pressure reducing valve is set at 4bar but the flow from the shower is barely more than a trickle, bath taps seem ok.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Most probably the service valves isolating the shower are half close to overcome exessive pressure, now that the pressure has been reduced, they could be open compleatly, solving the noise problem in the same time. Tiziano
