dual fuel radiator with timer switch inside bathroom?

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 2.41 PM

I want to fit a new dual fuel towel radiator in my bathroom as part of a complete refit. A timer switch seems the most sensible way to operate it on electrical during the summer. I have found only one switch that is certified for zone 2 and ipx4 rated - the Kudos wall control see here http://www.kudox.com/Accessories/Wall%20Controls/wallcontrols.html. It requires a separate fused spur. My question is, does the fused spur have to be located outside the bathroom or can it be inside as long as it's outside zones 0,1 and 2? And does anyone know of any other ipx4 rated timer switches for immersion radiators - possibly ones that don't require a separate fused spur? Finally, I wonder if there is a way to conceal the cable running from the immersion heater into the wall. Any advice gratefully received!! I should add: the radiator will be fixed above one end of the bath. I think that's zone 1 (the bath is wall to wall, the radiator will be fitted opposite the shower end so further away from any splashing but still above the bath). Jan

Don't put it in zone 1. RCD protection is required. A fused spur is required. Outside all zones, preferably out of reach and unswitched if inside the bathroom. This job is notifiable to building control. Best use a registered electrician.

Jan, Install the switchgear outside of the bathroom. Run cables to the radiator ONLY if the radiator is suitable for the zone you want to install it in, which I doubt. Make sure that the circuit is RCD protected and TESTED before use, then CERTIFIED, then NOTIFIED to local building control, a legal requirement. If you can't complete all of these steps then make sure you find an installer who can.
