Kitchen Fitting

Should we hire kitchen fitters or should we hire separate trades and do some of the work ourselves?

We have ordered a new kitchen from Wickes and are weighing up the pros and cons of taking on some of the work ourselves, and only hiring experts for the things we can't do. It's a small kitchen, only approx 3.5m of worktop, and base units only. We have removed the majority of units from the existing kitchen, all that remains is the sink, and units below and extending 1m beyond to the wall. We couldn't remove these as the pipes are channeled through the units. We had the electrics put in a few months ago when we did the whole house so all of the power points needed are in the correct locations. Our appliances are all free standing. All we think we need is help in removing the remaining kitchen units and sink, cutting and fitting the wood worktop, re-plumbing in the sink and tap. Is it worthwhile getting different tradesmen in to do the various works, and building the units ourselves or should we go for the kitchen fitter package? How would the price vary between the two methods?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi. I would suggest getting one company or one person in to do the complete job for you. Its going to be a lot of hassle and time consuming trying to organise little small jobs from different traders when a decent building company or fitter will be able to do the lot for you. You may even save some money getting it all done at once.
