Plastering & Rendering

K-Rend Thin Coat or 2 Coat system

Anonymous user 15/03/2024 - 2.32 PM

Hi I am looking at getting my house re-rendered it's a 1950's Det house with old plaster that has cracked. I have been looking at pro cons of both normal cement and K-Rend style render. What's the advantages between K-Rend Silicone Thin Coat and the Silicone Scraped Texture? What's going to work best on my house? Do the coloured render systems really work and are they worth it. What do I need to look out for when getting quotes for the work? Many thanks Andy

Hi Andy Modern renders such as k rend scraped render and thin coat silicone render have two main advantages over normal cement. One being they are more resistant to water penetration and the other is they are far less likely to crack. As far as comparing the modern renders against each other, I would say the scraped render has a more refined finish over the thin coat system. With you mentioning the old render has cracked I would suggest taking the old render off back to brick and installing k rend scrape render or one of the other leading suppliers in monocouche type renders. My advice when getting quotes is don't just go for whoever is the cheapest, and ask for examples of previous work.

k rend scraped finish I think is best .colour is fine but does stain if not looked after make sure a base coat and mesh are used for a better finish.but not cheap!
