its a cream colour and mdf with a veneer

a good quality primer/undercoat zinseer then depending on what finish you are after. eggshell or satinwood are my favourite finishe for fire places. ps ensure you denib between coats with fine sandpaper to get a beautiful smooth finish. good luck

Excellent formula,john, i would go with the same although with the satin i would use Sikkens primer plus and Sikkens Satura Rhubal Satin.
