The builder says the renderer is now charging him more money and wants us to pay.

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 2.41 PM

We are 15 weeks into a quoted 8 week build. The builder and I signed a contract stating a fixed amount for work to be done. Within this quote was rendering the outside of the house. The renderer stated after 3 days on the job that it was more work involved than first though and said they wanted more money. We told them to speak with the builder as we were not paying anymore as included in the price. The builder is now saying he will not pay the extra (which he wont tell us how much it is) and the renderers have left site. We now have a half rendered house. The builder is refusing to do any more work anywhere on the house until this is sorted. What are our legal rights. Advice greatly welcomed.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Based on your description of the current issue, the builder must honour the original quote unless extra works are requested. I am unable to advise under a legal perspective however and this answer is purely based on decency and professionalism. Builders must have had enough experience in the building field to be able to quote realistically.
