Curved woodchip ceiling and wall, how do I remove woodchip paper when its connected to the ceiling?

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 2.41 PM

Hello Not sure if this even makes sense but our upstairs is all woodchip wall paper but in the first room we have come to start decorating it has a curved ceiling where the roof comes down. On the one wall the wood chip paper continues straight up to cover the ceiling, making i one hell of a wood chip paper nightmare. All we want to do is strip the walls, skim and paint without touching the ceiling. Do we just cut the wood chip paper on the slope to where we want to paint with a stanley knife and hope for the best? Appreciate any advice! Steph

Hi Steph, Cutting a straight line with a Stanley knife should do the trick. But it depends how much paper is underneath. As wood chip is dangerous and a fire hazard I would suggest taking all the wood chip down. Better to be safe. Hope it helps Bill

hi steph. i feel your pain ! i have the exact same ceilings in my ex council house !except fortunately, mine are not woodchipped. however the principle is the same. you have practically answered your own question. mark a line along the top of the wall where the curvature of the ceiling begins (usually a couple of inches above the curtain rail baton) and splice through the paper with a sharp blade (stanley knife) and remove the wallpaper to that point. re emulsion your ceiling first and allow to dry before re papering to the score line. good luck.
