Water stands in ex place of the pond

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 2.41 PM

Hi, I would like to get some advice. We are just doing up our garden and previously there was a pond and slabs in the garden. We demolished pond as well as removed all the slabs from the garden, but now we have an issue that the water stands in the place of the pond as there is lots of mud on the bottom and it not absorbs in the ground. it seems the similar situation in slab place there are lots of sand. we are planing to remove some sand from the place where the slabs where and put some soil and grow the grass and in the place where pond was build the shed. so my question is: do I have to put like french drain in the garden to make sure there won't be puddle or wet places? our house stands down the hill. or will the solid absorb the excess water? any advice would be much appreciated. thank you

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi, Yes the french drain would resolve this if installed correctly and at the right level and fall.. Regards Chris EY Gardens & Groundwork

This could depend a number of issues, primarily: 1) Does the previous pond liner or part of liner still exist in the ground? 2) Is the ground cohesive material which will again hold water? 3) Does a high water table exist in the garden? All of these would cause the issue that exists and all can be dealt with. Option one if the case would be resolved by removing the liner and if ground is free draining would sort the problem out. Options 2 & 3 could be resolved by french drain diverted to suitable and existing drainage.
