Plumbing

when flushing the toilet terrible noise

Anonymous user 01/03/2024 - 2.54 PM

I I had a new boiler put in 2 years ago and the plumber said the reason why the toilet makes such a noise is because the water runs through the pipes now..but to be honest its awful it wakes the whole house up and we cant flush through the night..my hubby gets up at 4am to..please help ..I have text my plumber so hopefully he will give me a better answer.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

The central heating water supply/pipes should not be effected when you flush the loo. It sounds like you have an un- fixed water pipe somewhere so when water runs through to flush the pipe vibrates. Not difficult to cure when you find where or what the pipe is vibrating against. you could also try turning the water down a bit at the stop cock. The pressure maybe high. Neal

I concur with the other answer. A clear case of 'Water Hammer' but instead of throttling the water down at the stop cock consider fitting a suppressor to the cold water feed serving the W.C See link below as an example (just copy & paste link into your web browser) http://www.wickes.co.uk/Sioux-Chief-Water-Hammer-Arrester-1-2in/p/143498
