Floor tiling fail - do I need to remove all of the adhesive?

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.22 PM

Yesterday I tiled most of the bathroom floor but this morning a few of the tiles had some movement when walking on them. I have taken a few up and they just haven't bonded correctly between tile and adhesive on floor (no more ply substrate). I think the problem might be a combination of mix a bit too dry, too small notched trowel, walking too soon on the tiles. In hindsight I should have used a trowel with wider notches and left the floor a good 24 hours before walking on. Hindsight a wonderful thing. The problem now is that the adhesive is well and truly fixed to the NMP. Getting the adhesive of the tiles is not a problem with soaking and scraping. If I redo the tiles properly they will be higher than the other tiles so I think I just have to start again and remove all tiles. The adhesive stuck to the floor is about 5mm thick I would say. Do i need to remove all of the adhesive and re-prime the floor? UPDATE: Used powdered adhesive - 'one part flexible adhesive' - Norcross

Did you use powdered adhesive ?,also you should of used a 10mm notched trowel and back buttered the tile to give you full coverage cant say much more without knowing what adhesive you used. All I can say is it must be fixers error, try to remove as much as you can and prime with Sbr 50/50 diluted with water then use Mapei proflex from tile gaint.

You are right, the first problem it is a combination of mix a bit too dry and too small notched trowel as well.back buttered the tile to be sure never happen again.Don't forget to use prime for the floor.I advice you now to check if the tiles are bounded.cheers
