Getting non-London builders to do work in London

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 2.41 PM

A simple question to see if this idea is feasible or a complete non-starter: Would it be possible, or has anyone done this before, to get builders, electricians, plumbers etc from outside of London to do a project in London? The background is as follows: I am in the process of pulling together quotes from various trades to have my recently purchased house completely refurbished. It hasn't been touched since the 1950's. In my brief research, it seems day rates are considerably less outside London, e.g. Wales, than in London. So would non-Londoners be willing to live and work in a house in London while refurbing it? Just wondering if this has ever been done before. Cheers all.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi Pete, we have done this before. We live in Manchester and have worked in a property down south. We use Travis Perkins as a builders merchant so getting hold of materials was never a problem. We just stayed in the house that we were working on. It was actually an enjoyable experience. Regards, Mark - Project Developments

Hi Yes this is possible. I have worked in London previously and done full property renovations. We have stayed in the house so long as it's a habitable property and worked on it. We charge the same prices as we would for work in Yorkshire and then just add on the basic expenses which we include in the quote and it has still been cheaper than paying London prices.
