Replacement dimmable LED bulbs don't dim as much as the originals

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 2.41 PM

Hi, One of the two Orlight 7W GU10 LED dimmable bulbs failed in a room in our house. I replaced the both bulbs in the room with Lumilife 7.5W GU10 LED dimmable bulbs, as the closest matching pair I could easily find. What's very strange is that the new bulbs barely dim when we turn down the fader/dimmer. A bit of Google research calls this "dead travel", but I can't figure out what causes it or how to fix it. Before I replaced the bulbs, the bulbs in this room dimmed perfectly and we have identical dimmer circuits with the original Orlight bulbs that successfully dim all the way down. Any ideas what's causing this, and advice on what I should do? No matter how hard I try, I can't find matching equivalent Orlights to replace these bulbs with. Thanks! Martin

Hi Martin, When installing dimmable LED Lamps you also have to install an LED compatible Dimming switch, a good option for this would be the varilight v-pro trailing edge switch, these can come pre programmed but may need some adjustment. Another problem maybe you wattage, the minimum wattage for a trailing edge dimmer is usually 30W, you only have 14W. I hope this helps
