What to do about a ceiling where the paint appears to be flaking away.
Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.21 PM
We had a leak which has now been fixed however have also been advised that we must leave it for 2-4 weeks before we repaint. The paint appears to be flaking away (with pieces falling on the bed below) and I'm wondering what can be done in the meantime? Thanks

Hire a dehumidifier this will dry out the room a lot quicker meaning you can scrape/sand the flaking paint and get the problem sorted a lot sooner.

You shouldn't need to wait that long. Especially if you hire a dehumidifier. But it should dry out within a few days. The process to repainting is as follows.
Scrape back all lose and flaking paint
Lightly sand back the edges with a 120 or 240 grade sandpaper.
Use a coat of a product called zinzer peel stop following the instructions on the tin.
The edges may need filling with a light filler depending on how pronounced they are.
Once theses processes have been done. You can then. Proceed to repaint.
