Do ceilings need to be independent to the loft flooring?
Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.21 PM
At the moment, I am about to install a new ceiling on the first floor of my cottage. In the loft, there are the original ceiling joists (small and weak as you'd expect) but also 8x2s along side them, as it's been used for storage. The old ceiling was fixed to the old joists, but they're very warped and out of shape. Any new ceiling will obviously be warped too, if I were to fix to that. My question is, is it acceptable to get rid of the old joists and fix the ceiling to the 8x2 joists, bearing in mind that I want to do a loft conversion in the near future? Someone told me that a future loft floor would need to be completely independent of the first floor ceiling.
