Chimney & Fireplace

removing central fire places (2nd floor) whilst leaving stack in situ

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.21 PM

What do we need to do to remove two fire places (they are back to back in the bedrooms upstairs) in relation to the chimney stack above. Would it be better (and cheaper ) to remove both fire places and the whole stack or can we remove the fire places and leave the stack in situ? We live in a 1950s 2 storey house and the fireplaces run central in the house (fireplaces have been removed downstairs).

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Yes it's much cheaper to leave the stack as it is, just rip it off, block it up and make good the plaster, but be sure to vent it!

Hello The best option and the cheapest would be just to remove the fire place and the cast iron guts. After removal placing a lintel for a little more support would be good then just make good where needed #nice storage space# Regards Neil
