Extending light circuit cables in ceiling space

Anonymous user 01/03/2024 - 2.54 PM

I have a number of lighting circuit cables which need to be extended in a ceiling space which will then be boarded up can this be done using a junction box?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Whilst junction boxes are acceptable, the fact that the area in which they are sited may not be a good idea . Best soloutions replace the full length to each origin , if not possible make an access panel Available/ or move the joints to a accessible point and record there position Leave this information within the consumer unit area

As described by RJS Electrical you can use Wago connectors and Wago junction boxes which are maintenance free which can be stalled in the ceiling and don't need to be accessible. Although if possible place in an accessible area it's not necessary.

You can always use Maintainance free joint boxes which don't need to be accessible any good electrical wholesaler will stock them. These have push fit connections rather than the terminal type which rely on a screw which could work loose over time.

Use maintainance free connectors wago or similar, these will satisfy the regs where the joint(s) are inaccessible. I use them all the time anywhere.

I would recommend complete new wireing from existing light feeds, or if not possible use a mainentance free junction box. Also allow a trap in boarding to be on the safe side. Matt
