Are blocked air bricks cause of black mould?
Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.03 PM
We have been living in our current home, a 3 bed semi, for just over 6 years. There was no sign of any damp or mould when we bought the house, but a couple of years ago black spots started appearing in the bedrooms and kitchen. In the bedrooms the black spots are on the ceiling near the window, and in the box room on the corner near the window. In the kitchen, they are only under the sink so much so that that back of the cupboard under the sink appears totally ruined. I try to wipe the spots away as often as I can, but this is such a hassle as they only reappear much worse. Windows are opened as much as possible. Someone mentioned air bricks are the solution and when I had a look around the outside I could see airbricks but from the inside these have been boarded up. Is this what's causing the black spots? If so, would just removing the boarding solve the problem or should I just get them replaced? I don't want to unblock them just in case there's a perfectly logical reason for someone having blocked the air bricks in the first place. Any advice would be greatly appreciated as would like to get this sorted before winter when it worsens. Thanks, Saima
