Fitting doors to the gable end off a house with a chimney

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.21 PM

Hi I have an old sandstone house that has had an extension fitted to the gable end at some point. I would really like to open up this room making a large kitchen dinner but the original gable end has a chimney can this still be done successfully ? Regards John

Hi A structural engineer will be required to provide calculations for the knock through to specify the RSJ needed and also the calculations to support the remainder of the chimney stack assuming the chimney stack runs down the gable wall at the point you require breaking threw. Regards Shaun
