What causes a drip from the valve/ballcock in the water tank in the loft)

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.21 PM

Hi, we have a really irritating drip coming from the loft, into the water tank. I've gone up and looked at it and the drip is coming from the valve which is attached to the stop cock. It's just a drip every couple of seconds or so and it doesn't happen all the time. We had workman in recently to do other jobs and one of them (who does small plumbing jobs) tried three times to solve the problem, mainly by tightening the screw or changing the valve, but no luck. It's still the same. I'm worried that even a plumber couldn't fix it. Any ideas what's causing it. It is an old system (not combi) with an asbestos water tank.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Just get a new ball valve , costs less than a tenner with float , old valves arn't worth messing with for the cost they are to buy new, hope this helps you out.

try changing the valve,or go and get some instant leak adhesive, undo the valve and put this on the threads and tighten back up tight, this maybe a cheaper option for you than replacing the valve, but if this doesn't work put a new valve on.
