Rendering on outside wall seems hollow behind rendering

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.03 PM

Hello, I have a property that has a rendered outer wall. I would like to attach a door canopy but after drilling a hole, it seems to be hollow behind the rendering layer. Can anyone shine any light on this? Many thanks in advance. Also given its either breeze block or thermal boarding, whats the best way to attach canopy? what screws/ length etc?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

If it sounds hollow behind the render this could be a couple of things. 1 it could be that the render has blown ie come away from the structure behind it. 2 if it is on thermal boarding then this would also sound hollow due to it having a timber frame and then the thermal boarding.
