Can you fit a cat flap in lieu of a panel of glass on a panelled door?

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 2.42 PM

we have a very typical glass panelled door and are considering getting a cat, so need to think about access. would an off the shelf cat flap fit a typical space where the glass would be, or would something custom have to be built?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

If you have a seperate glass panel in the lower half of the door, you can have a solid panel to fit the cat flap in. I am pretty sure they can be fitted into glass as well, but the unit would need to be made up. You can also fit them into masonry/brick solid walls, via the kits supplied. My nephew has one through his brick wall, both his cats have collars, which have a receiver, so the cat flap will only open for them to enter and not other cats.

Hi Danksy yes you can remove the beading round the glass and cut a plywood panel and fit it in then after it is painted fit your catflap. this works ok I have done exactly that on my back door and it has been like it for 14 years door is fine but have changed the catflap once. hope this helps Kelvin
