Random 'flushing' of toilet.

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.03 PM

Hi there! We had to replace the syphon in the toilet and it now flushes beautifully, but there is a very slight trickle into the toilet pan (hardly visible - you have to watch for very slight rippling in the water). This isn't so much of a problem for us as we're not on a water meter, but a couple of times during the night and also about 3 hours after installing the new syphon, we noticed that the cistern was filling (we assume that's what was happening) because we could hear the water running in the bathroom - possibly the filling or mini-flushing. We have reduced the flow pressure after reading online and that this may be the problem, but that was before we went to bed last night. As I say, this is only happening every 3 or 4 hours but it would be better if it didn't happen at all, as you can probably appreciate. Many thanks in advance, Liz.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi Liz, The problem will be that the level of the water in the cistern is too high for the new syphon fitted, best thing to do is to lower the level of the fill valve and check that the fill valve turns off correctly and isn't continually filling Many thanks Chris B Coles Plumbing & Heating

Hi, sounds like your new syphon is not reseating after flushing, this needs removing and checking the seal on bottom.
