Wet floorboards and rot/mould under lino floor in shower room

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.03 PM

I have just bought a house and discovered that the en suite shower has been leaking. I have pulled up the lino to see how far it goes as the ceiling in the bedroom underneath has become damp and discovered directly below where the shower is fitted. The panels underneath are very wet and mould growing on them, but they don't appear to be completely rotten as they don't crumble. Firstly, will I be able to treat the panels? Secondly, I will need to remove them to take a look underneath. Providing the situation is the same, just damp and not rotted, could i simply treat the wood? I am newtoall this so any advice will begreat

First option would be to dry the entire area out with dehumidifies. I know not everyone will have a dehumidifier handy so a hairdryer or storage heater would do the trick. Completely dry the entire area should sort the problem. Provided that the leak is now fixed, Worse case is that the floorboards will have swollen up and may potentially need to be replaced. They're not expensive though.
