Should a new roof leak?

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 2.40 PM

We have had a complete re-roof, new rafters where needed and then breather quilt and new tiles, we have had numerous leaks since the roof was 'completed' we do to know where to turn... The roofer was recommended to us, he's not registered with any federation and repaired the various leaks at least 6 times and we found a new leak today, in the middle of summer just after a downpour :-( We have no faith in the roof and believe the only solution is to take it all off and start again.... We are trying to contact the roofer but can any one advise what our options are and what route we can take to get this fixed? Many thanks

sorry to hear your having such problems, you now seem to realise that this chap is incapable of fixing your roof, this unfortunately sound like it needs to be redone completely, you have given this chap the chance to fix the roof but he has been incapable of doing this. you have a few options, the first one is get the original roofer back to fix the problems try getting the original roofer to pay for it to be redone by someone else, take the original roofer to the small claims court for the cost of it being re done properly, or right of the cost of the first job and instructed someone else to do the job properly. good luck Alex

Unfortunately this seems to be a case of someone trying to do a job that they either have no idea how to carry out properly or a competent tradesman that has decided to reap the benefits of a well paid job without putting any effort into completing it up to an efficient standard. As the customer, it sounds like you have given them several chances to fix the issues to no avail. I would now be looking to take the tradesmen to the small claims court to regain the money you paid out as well as compensation on top to repay for the ordeal these issues have caused you. Any photographic evidence of the work carried out or damaged caused after will help with your claim as well as any paperwork to do with payments to the said tradesman. If you still need a number of a quality roofer then feel free to message me. Im always sorry to hear of issues like this, as this type of work tends to give a bad name to all tradesmen in the construction industry. best regards, ben ford (4D construction and services)
