Can I put a shelf on a chimney breast wall?

I'm in the middle of decorating my bedroom and I was wondering would it be ok to put a shelf on a chimney breast wall to put my tv on? Or would I tv bracket be better? We never use our fire. Thanks in advance :)

Although it is ok to install a shelf to a chimney breast I would recommend a TV bracket fixing and use the shelf area for consoles, Tv box set ups and so on.
