how close can soil go to the house?

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.21 PM

Our garden is very uneven and my husband is trying to level it off. We also have a large step down from our patio doors so he proposed to level the garden and use the soil on what is now the path to level it right up to the patio doors. Obviously this would cause damp so he thought maybe to leave a gap of about a foot between the soil and the house and put a grate over it to allow air to circulate. I think this is too close and would still cause problems. Can anyone provide a solution please or let us know how close is safe?? Thanks

Soil up against your house won't be a problem as long as you leave it a minimum 150mm down from your buildings damp course.
