New render sounds hollow. What to do?

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.03 PM

Hi, I recently rendered some garden walls. The walls were pebble dash and needed repairs. So i have repaired and then rendered with a smooth finish. I was happy with my work and thought id done a good job as did the client. A month later the client has told me some sections sound hollow. I went to have a look and there are some large sections that sound hollow! Could there be any other cause for this or is it down to poor application or bonding? The question is what to do? I am happy to re do the work if needed but i am reluctant to hack it off as their is no cracking or sign damage as of yet. does the hollow sound mean it will definitely blow or could it sound hollow and still be stable? Should i settle with an agreement to redo if it comes off or just re do it? Thanks

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

It doesn't mean the application is wrong it sounds like you've rendered onto a blown wall so it might stay for a while but sooner or later it has to come off and be replaced Gary

Did you render over the existing pebble dash for smooth finish? Is so really you wanted to hack it all off , sbr , scratch coat and top it properly done
