Flooring finish up to patio door

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 2.39 PM

Hi, we are about to have a new wooden floor laid in our lounge, and one of the entrances is a patio door and i'm unsure what the options are for finishing the wooden floor as it meets the upvc frame.. i imagine the simplest thing to do is lay the floor right up to the upvc frame, and then somehow "attach" a scotia or similar? the rest of the room has 5" skirting board around which is unsuitable for also finishing this area against the plastic frame as it would be far too high... Another option i thought about would be a large "window sill" style piece of wood, almost like a step, that would bring the position of the place where the floor would finish in line with the walls.. and also make a neater(er) finish for skirting perhaps? - problem is i don't know where to get something suitable... i would imagine it needs to be a lot thicker than standard window sill as it would be stood on frequently.. advice welcome, ty.

Best trim to use is a wood end bar. Butts up to door frame an wood sits under the lip

beading will be useless in that area as when you walk in from outside you have a high chance of knocking it off, there are doorbars that are made for this called end sections or square edge but as far as I am aware can only be purchased by professional flooring installers I have never seen them for sale anywhere but professional suppliers to the trade.

In the past have used a variety of finishes, from window board to a custom made powder coated c section
