Door handle doesnt stay up when locked you can turn it and 2 of 3 bolts retract

Anonymous user 15/03/2024 - 2.32 PM

I can lock my alloy door by turning handle upwards and all 3 bolts come out. I can then turn key and it is locked, it should then not be possible to turn handle and retract top and bottom bolts but I can so the door is only then locked by centre locking bolt. what needs replacing or looking at to keep the top & bottom bolts in locked position and door handle from being able to be pushed all way down?

it sounds like your actual lock caseing where the spindle sits in has worn to excess and will eventually stop working alltogether , it depends on what lock system you have , either the whole lock has to be replaced or the a new lock case can be renewed !

It sounds like the gearbox on your mechanism is faulty. I'd ring a local locksmith. Sometimes a faulty part on a gearbox can be replaced. Sometimes the gearbox itself will need replacing. Or maybe the whole mechanism depending on the age of it. Some are discontinued and need replacing with a different mechanism. Some of which will be a straight swap, others may need alterations to your door and/or keeps to work properly. In some cases and mechanism has to be made up on site to suit the door. Definitely a job for an experienced locksmith. A DIY'er may cause damage to your door or frame which will cost you more in the long run.
