cracked glass in 2 week old double glazing

Anonymous user 15/03/2024 - 2.32 PM

Im looking for some advice regarding a large crack that has appeared in our new double glazing. It had been installed about 2 weeks prior to the crack appearing. It is on the inside pane only, left side and goes from the upvc frame about halfway up left hand side and curves down to about a third of the way along the bottom of the upvc frame. The installer came and looked and has said that this was caused by something hitting the window on the inside with some force. (we know nothing did) But there are no impact marks at all on the glass on Upvc..not even a scratch which I would have expected. He says he can replace the glass for £360 but as it is not his fault we will have to pay it. Nothing whatsoever has hit the window and we really do not want to have to pay for this if it could be caused by a fault in the glass, or frame etc.. Do you have any ideas as to what, if anything, may have caused the pane to spontaneously crack? Or are we just going to have to end up paying for this. Thankyou.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Read the small print in your contract. Any damaged/broken glass that happens after installation isn't under guarantee. Seems harsh, but look at it from the installers point of view. It wasn't broken when the job was signed off (If you had a registered installer do the job) Ps £360 for some annield glass is extortionate.
