Staircase - change top winder to straight

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.03 PM

Hi, Looking for specialist advice. I've just had a new staircase fitted, which replaced the old one, which had a winder at the top, then straight. My new staircase is now going the opposite direction with a winder at the top and bottom. It was my choice to keep the winder at the top, but now I'm wishing it was straight. My question is could the top winder steps be changed to straight without changing the whole staircase? I know my landing area will accommodate this change if it can be done. If so I would really appreciate some advice. Help!!! Many thanks

Hi This of course could be done. But at what expense? Also the staircase would be weak in this area which would eventually show. In my opinion you really only have two options. The first is learn to live with the staircase you have. The second is to buy a complete new staircase. Unfortunately I wouldn't be interested in this work as I repair stairs. I don't supply and fit When buying a staircase try to buy the best you can afford avoid mdf treads and risers they dont wear well I hope this helps Many thanks Chris
