Sounds of running water but no visable leak!

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 2.39 PM

We live in a ground floor maisonette. For a while, in the bathroom pipes, we can hear the sound of running water (slight high pitched sound). Plumber came out today and can find no leaks. When we turn the stop cock off the sound stops! We are also on a water meter which is turning round even when we have nothing running? Any help greatly appreciated!

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Brian appears to have it right,a leak probably going into the ground, its a case of finding it and as it will only get worse then the sooner the better Geoff

Hi katec. If the internal stop cock shuts off all the mains water to the property and the external meter is still running, then you have a leak somewhere between the meter and the stopcock. The external stop cock is the responsibility of the water board anything after that is yours. Have a look for any dampness in the ground outside the property. You can dig up and fix the leak easy enough but if it is an old lead pipe it may well go at the next weakest point in the future so perhaps think about renewing it at some point. Hope this helps.Good luck. Brian.
