Replacing imperial radiators with metric radiators. How difficult should it be?
Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.20 PM
Hi, we have 6 single panel imperial radiators in the downstairs of our house that we're looking to change for 6 compact double metric radiators. I believe that 8mm microbore piping is currently in use. Should this be a difficult job for a competent plumber to do? Would we need any special materials I.e. Valves, pipe extensions or the radiators themselves or should it all be readily available materials? Thanks for any comments.

Hi Chris ,6 radiators should take 3-5 hours depending on your system ,if customer is buying the rad, usually buys the valves , as they is a wide range. You won't be able to buy 8 mm valves, you have to get 10 mm and ask if they come with insert reduces ,some do some don't, when Rads are changed, 9 times out of 10 you won't get the exact size so there is some pipe work involved, for a professional finish, floors will need to come up near rad to accommodate new pipework , supplied by the plumber.
Hope this helps , Michael
